Chelsea go into the match on the back of mixed results in their last five fixtures, having beaten Everton away 2-0 and Bournemouth at home 5-1, but lost to Brentford 0-3 and to Arsenal 1-2, and drew with Hull City 2-2.

Tottenham, meanwhile, beat Coventry City 3-1, drew with Manchester United 1-1, with Everton 0-0 and with Nottingham Forest 0-0, while losing to Aston Villa 2-3.

Previous meetings between the two sides point to close results, with Tottenham winning the most recent clash 2-1 at Chelsea's ground on 1 August 2026, while Chelsea won the game before that 2-1 on 19 May 2026. Chelsea also beat Tottenham 1-0 in November 2025 and 1-0 again in April 2025, while the December 2024 match ended in a 4-3 win for Chelsea away from home.

Chelsea are without Reece Lewis James, Emmanuel Essé Emigha, Jamie Germaine Bynoe-Gittens and Pep Chavarria due to injury, as well as Malo Gusto due to illness, and Damian Emiliano Martinez Romero for other reasons.

Tottenham, for their part, are missing Rodrigo Bentancur through suspension, alongside Mykhailo Mudryk, W. Odobert, Simons, Pedro Porro, Lucas Bergvall, Yenuma Odogwu, Abdoulaye Adarabioyo and Andrew Robertson through injury.

In the league table, Chelsea sit fourth with 13 points from 7 games, having scored 17 goals and conceded 13, with 4 wins, one draw and two defeats. Tottenham are sixteenth with 6 points from 7 games, with one win, 3 draws and 3 defeats, having scored 6 goals and conceded 10.
