In the standings, Los Angeles FC sit sixth in the Western Conference with 46 points from 31 matches, having won 12, drawn 10 and lost 9, scoring 48 goals and conceding 33. In contrast, Los Angeles Galaxy are eighth with 40 points from 31 matches, with 10 wins, 10 draws and 11 defeats, scoring 43 goals and conceding 52.

In their last five matches, Los Angeles FC won once, drew three times and lost once, drawing 1-1 away to New York City in their last match, beating Austin 3-1 at home, drawing 1-1 with Vancouver Whitecaps, losing 0-1 away to Dallas, and drawing 2-2 with San Jose Earthquakes.

Los Angeles Galaxy's recent form was stronger, having achieved three wins, one draw and one defeat in their last five matches, after drawing 2-2 at home with San Diego in their last match, beating Portland Timbers 2-0, before suffering a heavy 2-6 defeat away to St. Louis City, then beating Colorado Rapids 3-2 and Minnesota United 3-2.

In their last five meetings, Los Angeles FC had the upper hand, winning the last derby on 18 July 2026 at Galaxy's ground 3-0, while the two sides drew in two previous matches 3-3 and 2-2, with FC also winning a previous match 2-1 and Galaxy losing to them 1-2 in another meeting on 5 July 2024.

Los Angeles FC are without the services of three players through injury, namely Cabral Carter, Jeremy Edward Nirenga Ebobisse Ebullo and T. Tillman. In contrast, Los Angeles Galaxy are missing four players due to injury: Isaiah Parente, Kyogo Furuhashi, H. Lozano and Riqui Puig.
